Wednesday 28th August - Etty Bay Caravan Park

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TREVOR MEACHEM

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALSO TO CHRIS SAMPSON

Today is another dull, overcast day, still warm, but no sun.  My suntan is beginning to fade with this lack of sunshine.  I’ll need to hit the solariums if this keeps up – just joking!!!  We went into Innisfail today and did our voting as well as having lunch at The Brothers Leagues Club.  Managed to waste a lazy $5 on the pokies before boring supermarket shopping and then back to the Caravan. Gee I hope the sun comes out tomorrow, I need the Vitamin D…….

Tuesday 27th August - Etty Bay Caravan Park

Lots of rain again last night and then another quiet, non eventful day in the Caravan Park. Barry has once again been down to the beach to try his luck at the fishing game…!!

Monday 26th August - Etty Bay Caravan Park

Last night we had a lot of rain.  It woke me up in the early hours of the morning with rain very heavy on the caravan roof.  Barry went for a walk down to the beach this morning and spotted a Turtle further up the beach.  So far on this trip we have seen so many different animals and birds that we didn’t see on any of our other trips. Barry was also told today that there was a Crocodile landed on the beach about a month ago, it amazes me to see everyone swimming in the water.  There is no way I will be going in there, we are still way too far north to feel safe about Crocodiles.  A swimming pool in a Caravan Park is where I will be headed!!!!!  Since we have been in and around Innisfail we have found Monkey Bananas, beautiful little 2” long sweet bananas.  We first bought 6 to try and loved them so much we bought a hand of them today at a roadside market.  What a pity you can’t get them in Victoria, they are the perfect size but apparently native to the Innisfail area.

Sunday 25th August – Etty Bay Caravan Park.

Have a great camp at Etty Bay Caravan Park on a bit of a hill looking down towards the beach, terrific spot.  I have just managed to get a string of photos with 4 sky divers landing on the beach.  These guys are unbelievable.  They can land on a “threepence”.  I stood and watched the plane overhead and saw the 4 sky divers exit the plane.  They looked so graceful gliding down to the beach. But, still not sure why anyone would want to jump out of a perfectly good plane.!!!!!   In saying that they were all very excited when they landed on the beach with “high 5’s” all round. We are hoping that it will be quieter here tomorrow.  Apparently over the weekend this is a very popular spot for the locals to come and hang out.  While I was getting our “nibblies” ready for Happy Hour, a mother Cassowary and her chick slowly walked through the camp.  She walked from the top of the park, where we are camped, right down to the beach. Very excited, this is the first live Cassowary we have ever seen, and to have a chick as well was very special.  We were quite convinced that Cassowary’s were all just “concrete” !!!!  Happy Hour was with our new neighbours Trevor & Lyn from Toowoomba.  Trevor kept us entertained for ages with his stories about the time they were publicans at a Hotel in a town called Chillagoe,  a little town West of Cairns in outback Qld.  Carol & I were laughing so much we had stitches.  They turned out to be a very entertaining couple camped next to Max & Carol and traveling around in a motorhome.

Saturday 24th August – Bramston Beach Caravan Park

Walked up to the Bramston Beach CafĂ© for lunch today.  Very nice Spanish Mackerel with salad for me and a nice big home made hamburger for Barry.  Max & Carol both had a Mama Fish Hamburger.  All agreed that it was lovely sitting on the balcony having our meal made up for us. Another quiet day in paradise.  Barry washed the caravan and we are all ready to head off to our next camp at Etty Bay.
